Until 1982 the European Shorthait Cat
was not separated from the very similar British
Shorthair, but in that year a distiction was made for show purposes.
The modern European Shorthair has been
developed from the ordinary working cats of Europe. This is a stocky cat
with round, longish head, rather thick, strong legs and a medium-length
tail. A huge variety of color forms is available.
It is hardy, rugged, quiet, untemperamental,
adaptable, moderate, sensible, active, intelligent, shrewd, inquisitive,
brave and lively.
